Independent research in computational neuroscience. I implemented Hodgkin-Huxley neural simulations in MATLAB to model biologically realistic neuron dynamics, then collaborated with a senior design team on FPGA acceleration. The bottleneck in these workloads is repeated evaluation of exponential and transcendental functions, so we implemented floating-point look-up table acceleration, trading FPGA memory for computation speed to shorten simulation cycles on resource-constrained hardware.
